Measures and countermeasures to prevent corrosion of stainless steel pipe fittings

Based on years of experience in production, installation, and use, preventing corrosion of stainless steel and extending its service life should start from the production process and run through the entire process of design, production, and installation.

1. Prevention during the production process. In stainless steel pipe fittings production enterprises, it is necessary to consider the factors that prevent corrosion during use of the pipe fittings. Solid solution treatment must be adopted for stainless steel pipe fittings during processing, and this heat treatment is crucial.

After stainless steel pipe fittings undergo forming and welding processes, the metal molecular structure will undergo certain changes. After solid solution treatment at 1050 ℃ (using hydrogen protection treatment), the pipe fittings have a good improvement effect: firstly, it can eliminate the sensitization phenomenon in pipe welding and improve the corrosion resistance of the weld seam. Secondly, it can restore intergranular changes during the production process of pipe fittings and prevent intergranular corrosion during use. Thirdly, it can eliminate stress during the production process of pipe fittings and reduce the possibility of stress corrosion during use. Fourthly, it can eliminate the modification phenomenon during the processing of pipe fittings and restore the corrosion resistance of materials. Fifth, it can restore the natural brightness of the surface of stainless steel materials. This kind of brightness is different from polished brightness.

Secondly, gas protection must be used during the welding and solution treatment processes of pipe fittings, as the use of gas protection can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipe welds and stainless steel bodies, thereby greatly enhancing the product's service life.

Therefore, solid solution is an important measure to improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipe fittings, and the use of solid solution technology will increase the processing cost. Our company has been using solid solution technology in the production process for many years. It is understood that there are currently a few enterprises in the production of pipe fittings that, in order to save costs, do not use gas protection measures in the welding process, nor do they adopt solid solution treatment. They only use polishing and sandblasting methods to treat, covering up the shortcomings of welding and solid solution processes, which will bring eternal hidden dangers to customers.

2. Prevention of pipeline design. In the process of pipeline design, one is to minimize crevice corrosion as much as possible; The second is to minimize welding on the construction site as much as possible. If welding is necessary, gas protection and post processing should be carried out to reduce damage to the passivation layer of the gap; Thirdly, in areas with poor installation environment and easy exposure to water vapor, it is advisable to consider using a compression type connection method to avoid the generation of gaps as much as possible; Fourthly, if gaps cannot be avoided and the usage environment is not good, consideration should be given to using them instead316 material.

3. Prevention during installation and construction process. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel is relative and conditional, and stainless steel can also corrode under adverse factors and conditions. as304 stainless steel plate has good rust resistance in a dry and clean atmosphere, but when moved to sea mist containing a large amount of salt, it will quickly rust, and the quality of the use environment has a significant impact on the corrosion of stainless steel pipe fittings.

1、 During installation, it is important to maintain a clean and dry environment as much as possible to avoid water vapor accumulation, which is crucial for extending the service life.

2、 During the installation and construction process, avoid the generation of corrosive media such as residual grinding wheel cutting foam, welding oxides, and carbon steel powder layers in the stainless steel pipe, minimize the damage to the stainless steel metal structure caused by grinding wheel cutting, and avoid causing various types of corrosion.

3、 Various buildings in cities will inevitably be affected by stray currents generated by power lines, communication lines, electrified railways, DC motors, etc. Therefore, for buildings in areas with high stray currents, such as substations, radar stations, and signal transmission stations, insulation treatment should be considered as much as possible when installing pipe fittings to avoid current corrosion caused by current circuits. The following methods can be used to prevent current corrosion:

(1) Try to avoid or reduce sources of stray current interference during pipeline installation.

(2) Minimize the contact between stainless steel fittings and other metals as much as possible, and when connecting, try to electrically isolate the two metals from each other.

(3) During installation, try to avoid the possibility of stray current corrosion caused by mutual contact between pipelines.

(4) For buildings with stray currents, electrical insulation treatment can be applied at a certain distance during pipeline installation, using live joints or installing insulation flanges to cut off the circulation route of stray currents.

Preventing corrosion of stainless steel is an issue that people attach great importance to, but preventing electrochemical corrosion cannot be ignored. If corrosion is caused, it will bring varying degrees of trouble and impact to production enterprises, construction parties, and project units. Therefore, we hope that more people can understand the characteristics of stainless steel, and we are willing to provide more experience for the use and installation of stainless steel water supply pipelines, improving the production and use of thin-walled stainless steel water supply pipelines, Extend the service life of stainless steel water supply pipes.
